My research is clinically orientated and centres on the physiology and pharmacology of the cardiovascular system, and particularly the large arteries and endothelial function. As a clinical pharmacologist, I combine detailed physiological measurement with pharmacological probes to investigate the mechanisms underlying the development of hypertension, arteriosclerosis and ultimately cardiovascular disease. My current research projects include investigating the effect of ageing on the cardiovascular system, and the link between arterial stiffening on cognitive function. I am involved in a number of large collaborative studies including CLEAREST Study and the Caerphilly Heart Study.
