Pre-Announcement – Restricted call: MRC/ESRC Adolescent Health Study call for study sites (Indicative internal deadline: early February 2024)
Details for the full application stage of this scheme are not yet available and should be released in the new year. We anticipate the turnaround time for the full stage may be short, so this notification is to bring the scheme to the attention of any interested applicants. A reminder/update will be sent once the full stage details are released. Therefore, please note that this information remains subject to change.
The MRC and ESRC have announced the Adolescent Health Study (AHS) call for study sites.
The funders invite expressions of interest (EoIs) from eligible UK institutions to lead an AHS study site. AHS will be a new longitudinal population study focusing on the critical biological, interpersonal and environmental factors influencing adolescent development. The aim is to recruit 100,000 young people aged 8 to 18 to enrolment, primarily through schools, and will follow their health and wellbeing for a period of 12 years (two year pilot plus 10 year main phase).
The MRC and ESRC intend to fund approximately four to seven study sites across the UK. AHS will be funded at £62 million over the 12 years, with approximately £30 million UKRI contribution available to support the study sites. UKRI will fund 80% of your study site’s full economic cost.
The EoI stage is not mandatory. However, by submitting an EoI you can help to shape the priorities for AHS and obtain feedback to inform your full application.
University Internal selection:
Institutions can only submit one full application. Therefore, this call will be managed according to the University’s restricted calls procedure.
As the funders’ EoI stage is not mandatory and they will offer feedback to those who do submit EoIs, we will not run the internal selection process until the full stage is announced. We anticipate the internal deadline will be in early February 2024.
Funder deadlines:
Non-Mandatory EoI: 4th December 2023
Full stage: TBA
