Last year, a group of postgrads from Psychiatry, Psychology, and the CBU put on Summer CAMP (Cambridge Access to Mental Health & Psychology), a widening participation summer programme at the University. We admitted 20 students from underrepresented backgrounds in postgraduate study and academia to a two-week entirely virtual programme with a variety of events (e.g. talks from faculty, Q&A on postgraduate life). The core part of the programme was writing a (hypothetical) research proposal and presenting this to the group on the final day. Students received one-to-one supervisions with a postgraduate supervisor to help them write the proposal and address any other questions they had about postgraduate life and academia. Full programme details can be found on our website https://www.psychiatry.cam.ac.uk/students/summer-camp/.
The programme was a big success and received unanimously positive feedback from the participants. We will run the programme again this year, this time running over three weeks, from 14th of August until 1st of September and are therefore looking for postgraduates who would like to supervise a CAMP student.
To be eligible as a supervisor you must:
