Restricted call: Mental Health Research UK – PhD Scholarship Competition 2025 (internal deadline: 27th March 2024)
Mental Health Research UK has announced a competition for two PhD Scholarships beginning September 2025.
Mental Health Research UK (MHRUK) are inviting applications for two PhD scholarships under the theme of maternal mental health. The two scholarships which will be funded are:
1. The John Grace QC scholarship: focus on psychotic disorders, including puerperal psychosis
2. Open scholarship: topics such as post-natal depression, developing post-natal family mental health interventions, factors influencing maternal mental health.
The topic is viewed in its broadest sense, and proposals are invited that cover all aspects of mental health during pregnancy and in the first year afterwards. Of particular interest are proposals that aim to understand causes, risk factors, mechanisms, or treatments. Please note, MHRUK does not fund health services research, nor fund primary research on autism and learning difficulties. Applicants are required to be supported by two UK based PhD supervisors, and MHRUK are keen to give the opportunity for a researcher in the early stages of their career to be part of the supervisory team which may include being the primary supervisor.
