I am a quantitative psychologist interested in understanding the course and interplay of multiple domains of mental health in children and young people. I am currently funded by a 5-year Wellcome Trust award to elucidate mental health treatment effectiveness using causal modelling in population-based data, with linkage to routine NHS and educational records. I have shown how treatment-as-usual mental health services are associated with a subsequent reduction in adolescent depression and transdiagnostic distress, and improvements in family support. My work seeks to understand factors contributing to depression, self-harm, and psychological distress in young people, encompassing longitudinal modelling of transdiagnostic mental illness and wellbeing, and identification of high-risk trajectories. Such efforts aim to elucidate the aetiology of emerging mental health problems in children and young people, reveal targets for prevention and treatment, and map out how services can be improved.
